Ripple Partnership: The launch builds on a February partnership with Ripple and follows the firm’s earlier tokenized USD Liquidity Fund share class introduced on July 29.
Aviva Investors , the asset management arm of UK insurer Aviva, has launched a tokenized share class of its $29.4 billion Sterling Liquidity Fund on the XRP Ledger in collaboration with Ripple . Aviva invested $66.7 million into the new offering, according to an announcement released Monday. With the launch, Aviva now has more than $114.8 million invested across its two tokenized money market fund share classes, expanding its presence in the growing tokenized fund sector.
New Tokenized Sterling Fund Share Class Goes Live
The newly launched share class is tied to the Sterling Liquidity Fund , a vehicle that has operated since 2002 and invests in high-grade, sterling-denominated short-term debt instruments. The fund offers daily liquidity , is domiciled in Ireland, and is structured as a UCITS money market fund. The new share class follows a digital twin approach in which investor holdings are represented onchain while the underlying fund continues to operate offchain.
Under this model, A viva aims to provide blockchain-based access without changing the core structure of the fund itself . Investors need an eligible digital wallet to access the offering. Aviva said the tokenized shares maintain the same investment objective , risk profile, liquidity characteristics, and regulatory protections as the conventional version of the fund. BNY Mellon serves as custodian of the fund’s assets , while digital asset custodian Komainu and digital infrastructure platform Licuido supported the launch.
Building on an Existing Ripple Partnership
The latest launch builds on a relationship that began earlier this year. Aviva first partnered with Ripple in February with plans to bring selected traditional investment funds onto the XRP Ledger . At the time, Ripple described Aviva as its first European investment management partner. Aviva later introduced a tokenized USD Liquidity Fund share class on the XRP Ledger on July 29 after receiving approval from the Central Bank of Ireland. The Sterling Liquidity Fund launch represents another step in that tokenization strategy and expands the firm’s blockchain-based product lineup.
Focus on Efficiency and Future Expansion
In comments included with the announcement, Aviva CEO Mark Versey said tokenized funds have the potential to improve efficiency and support better outcomes for clients . The company also indicated it intends to explore additional tokenization opportunities with Ripple. The latest launch adds another onchain fund offering and further extends the firm’s use of blockchain infrastructure for traditional investment products.
