Stock Market Today: ACN Leads SPX, PSKY/WBD Merger Nears, NKE Earnings #shorts

Welcome to the wrap. I'm Marley Kayden here to take you through today's market action. Let's take a look at where markets closed to end the day. Stocks finished slightly higher on the day with the S&P higher by 2/10 of 1%. The Nasdaq 100 and the Russell 2000 gained a third of a percent and the Dow was slightly above the unchanged line. As for the leading and lagging sectors, energy, industrials, and tech led while healthcare and communications both fell more than 1% on the session. As we look at some stocks that were on the move today, Accenture reported better than expected earnings with shares closing up almost 16%. The company expects revenue growth for the fiscal year to increase 3 to 6% along with margin expansion. Software peers moved higher in sympathy following the results with Synopsys up 13% and Cadence Design rising 6%. Paramount Skydance fell 9% as it finalizes its takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery saying the merger should be closed by October 6th. The company issued $52 billion in debt and loans that began trading today in what was the largest high-yield bond offering in history. Shares of Nike are under pressure once again after its latest earnings report. It was a mixed report with EPS topping estimates but revenue coming in lower than expectations. Overall revenue fell 4% for the quarter with Greater China revenue down 22% year-over-year. The company's expecting revenue to decline in the high single digits for fiscal 2027. As we look at what to watch for Friday, all eyes will be on the September jobs report. The street is forecasting a gain of 89,000 nonfarm jobs while unemployment is expected to hold at 4.1%.
