After detecting the security breach, Binance decided to temporarily suspend withdrawals and deposits. At the same time, the company’s executive leadership announced that it will cover all losses through its operational reserves and the SAFU emergency fund.
Amid the chaos, analytics platforms recorded the price drop of the pioneer cryptocurrency, which fell into the $76,000 zone. Minutes after the initial movement, Bitcoin stabilized its price around $76,661 .
The initial impact triggered liquidations exceeding $1.5 billion in leveraged positions over the past 24 hours. Despite the volatility recorded in order books, several technical analysts maintain that the nature of the incident differs structurally from the systemic insolvency experienced by the industry four years ago.
Operational Differences vs. FTX’s Insolvency
Reactions on social media initially labeled the hack as a “black swan” event capable of destabilizing global trading infrastructure. However, independent analysts ruled out that the incident represents internal operational insolvency.
Analyst Michaël van de Poppe stated on his X account that the current dynamic does not correspond to an improper misappropriation of balances. According to Van de Poppe’s perspective, FTX engaged in the unauthorized use of user funds for external operations prior to its dissolution, whereas Binance faced a targeted external intrusion and maintains resources to back user balances.
The specialist added in his technical report that the resilience shown by the underlying asset was higher than expected given the nominal magnitude of the theft. Van de Poppe indicated that the $78,400 level acted as primary support; once that level was lost, technical projections pointed toward a direct correction toward $75,000 , a trajectory that aligned with the floor reached during the session.
For his part, market analyst Ash Crypto suggested that the episode could signal a point of cyclical capitulation. According to his comparative charts, the collapse of FTX coincided with the bottom of the 2022 bear market, presenting the thesis that this cyberattack could set the price floor for Bitcoin during the current 2026 corrective period, provided broader equity indices do not experience sharp declines.
The technical response from digital asset issuers played a decisive role during the early hours following the breach. Stablecoin issuers, including Tether and Circle, coordinated immediate actions to freeze more than $1.56 billion in USDT and $800 million in USDC in addresses associated with the attackers.
Van de Poppe viewed these inter-institutional interventions as evidence of maturity within the blockchain infrastructure. From his perspective, the ability to freeze capital in transit mitigates the spread of financial contagion to other decentralized protocols.
Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao publicly communicated that depositors’ assets are fully guaranteed. The exchange’s current management reiterated that the company will absorb the missing balance once forensic audits on the affected addresses are finalized.
The full resumption of external transfers on the platform remains scheduled once the ongoing security review is completed.
