UK pension triple lock is ‘unfair’ and needs reviewing: CEO

I think every single political party in private will say the triple lock is a poor piece of legislation. We can't afford to give our nurses and our teachers that level of support. Why Why do we do it to a generation which I think we would all acknowledge the baby boomers have had a reasonable position in life in comparison to where certainly young people are today. So I I I actually wrote in the Times 18 months ago about the triple lock. I I think it is unfair and certainly if we're looking to put in place legislation around social care again supporting that same cohort and potentially rebuild it was discussed on Sunday 18 billion. I I hear a much larger number. But how do we pay for that? That can only be paid by things like triple lock and general taxation. So the government has to look somewhere. I'm really intrigued today to hear what Andy says Andy Burnham says around generally attacking the welfare bill. I sense in a in a in a in a smaller conversation with him yesterday that that he is going to try and tackle some of these big issues. It's a really difficult thing to take his party with him. But I hope the other parties also support some of these initiatives because ultimately everybody agrees the welfare bill has got too large. Pensions are half of the welfare bill. The triple lock is a component part of that. So let's see where it goes. Personally I support a review of it.
