Crown New Materials Technology (SZSE:001381) surged as much as 787% in its Shenzhen market debut on Tuesday before retreating sharply, as investors chased the Chinese adhesive maker despite falling profits and warnings against speculative trading.

Shares reached 150.58 yuan against an IPO price of 16.98 yuan, then closed at 84.55 yuan, still nearly 398% above the offer price. The extraordinary advance triggered two trading halts.

The China tape maker stock debut came as authorities reportedly moved to restrict new IPO activity to support struggling equity markets. Crown’s performance highlighted a striking divide: intense demand for a newly listed company while established Chinese stocks remained under pressure.

Crown New Materials IPO: What Happened on Listing Day?

Crown began trading on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange on November 3. Its shares moved between 56 yuan and 150.58 yuan during their first session before finishing at 84.55 yuan.

Listing detail Figure

IPO price 16.98 yuan

First-day opening price 56.00 yuan

Intraday high 150.58 yuan

First-day closing price 84.55 yuan

Closing gain against IPO price Approximately 398%

The closing price was approximately 44% below the session peak, illustrating how sharply fortunes changed even during a hugely successful debut. These are November 3 listing-day figures, rather than a November 4 live quotation.

An IPO investor and someone buying near the intraday high therefore experienced very different outcomes.

Why Did Crown New Materials Stock Rise So Much?

A limited supply of tradable shares helped amplify demand. Crown’s listing notice said approximately 44.1 million shares were available for trading at the debut, while other shares remained subject to restrictions. The company also urged investors to make rational decisions and avoid chasing newly listed stocks.

Conservative IPO pricing was another factor. Shen Meng, managing director of investment bank Chanson & Co., told Forbes that mainland offerings are often priced cautiously, leaving room for substantial gains once trading begins.

That combination can produce large price movements without a comparable overnight change in the business. Limited supply magnifies buying pressure, but it can also make a subsequent reversal more severe.

What Does Crown New Materials Make?

Crown manufactures industrial adhesive materials and protective films used in electronics, automotive production and semiconductor manufacturing.

Its products serve supply chains associated with Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), according to Forbes. Adhesive materials help secure components, while protective films shield sensitive surfaces during manufacturing.

Founded in 2000 and based in Zhongshan, Guangdong province, the company plans to use IPO proceeds to expand production and develop a research centre. Those applications explain the business’s industrial relevance. They do not establish that demand from any individual end customer caused Tuesday’s share-price surge.

Crown Earnings Show Profit Pressure Despite Revenue Growth

Crown’s financial performance presents a more restrained picture than its market debut. Revenue increased 11.75% to approximately 2.78 billion yuan in the first nine months of 2026, while profit attributable to shareholders fell 7.89% to approximately 225 million yuan.

The company attributed the pressure partly to higher raw-material costs, delays in passing those costs to customers and a Zhejiang subsidiary that had not reached break-even during its production ramp-up. Management’s preliminary full-year estimates point to revenue growth of 10.18%–11.65%, alongside a profit decline of 10%–14.73%. These are estimates, not guaranteed results.

China IPO Restrictions Add a Policy Twist

The Financial Times reported that China’s securities regulator had informally instructed investment banks to pause IPO activity and suspend large shareholder sales until markets recover.

Reuters, which could not immediately verify the report, noted that the CSI 300 fell 8.5% in October. Authorities also introduced measures supporting share buybacks and market liquidity.

The reported restrictions underline why Crown’s debut attracted attention. Demand for scarce new shares remained strong even as policymakers sought to stabilise the wider market.

Did Crown stock close 787% higher?

No. The 787% figure describes its intraday peak. Shares closed approximately 398% above the IPO price.

Why did Crown shares fall from their debut high?

The retreat shows selling emerged after the initial surge. The available reporting does not establish a single cause for every intraday move.

Has China officially banned all IPOs?

The reports describe informal regulatory instructions. They should not be presented as confirmation of a permanent, blanket IPO ban.
