Ondas Announces Stemme Acquisition to Expand Drone Production

Ondas has entered a definitive agreement to acquire 100% of Stemme GmbH through an all-cash transaction. The acquisition would give Ondas direct control over the manufacturer of its ULTRA aircraft airframe. Moreover, the company aims to strengthen production capacity and reduce dependence on outside suppliers.

Stemme manufactures the certified S12 composite airframe that supports Ondas’ long-endurance surveillance platform. The German manufacturer operates production facilities in Strausberg and Pasewalk, covering approximately 135,571 square feet. Currently, these facilities use about 25% of their available production capacity, leaving room for expansion.

Ondas plans to increase manufacturing output across existing German facilities and establish additional production operations in the United States. The company has outlined approximately 345,000 square feet of planned U.S. manufacturing space. This expansion would shorten supply chains and improve delivery schedules for American defense customers.

Ondas Targets 10 ULTRA Aircraft Monthly by 2028

Ondas aims to increase ULTRA production to 10 aircraft monthly by 2028 as demand for surveillance systems grows. The company plans to combine Stemme’s manufacturing expertise with its existing autonomous aircraft operations. This strategy would support faster production while strengthening control over engineering, costs, and manufacturing schedules.

ULTRA currently serves the U.S. Air Force and supports intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions. The aircraft can operate for more than 70 hours and carry payloads exceeding 400 pounds. Additionally, its modular design supports infrared sensors, radio-frequency collection equipment, and communications systems.

Beyond military applications, Ondas sees opportunities in border security, maritime monitoring, and disaster response. The aircraft can also support environmental monitoring and inspections of large commercial infrastructure networks. Its extended flight endurance allows operators to maintain coverage while reducing aircraft rotations and operating expenses.

Ondas Expands U.S. Defense Manufacturing Strategy

The planned acquisition comes as defense agencies seek affordable surveillance aircraft with longer operational endurance. Military organizations increasingly combine conventional aircraft with autonomous systems to expand coverage across challenging environments. Consequently, Ondas aims to position ULTRA as a lower-cost option for persistent intelligence gathering.

Stemme holds aviation approvals from European, German, and American regulators, supporting its manufacturing and maintenance operations. The company also operates an FAA Part 145 repair station alongside its aircraft engineering facilities. These capabilities would strengthen Ondas’ technical infrastructure as it expands its defense aviation business.

Ondas expects to complete the acquisition during the first quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and closing conditions. The company has not disclosed the transaction’s purchase price in its announcement. Meanwhile, the planned manufacturing expansion represents a significant step toward increasing ULTRA production for U.S. and allied defense customers.
