Is Netflix in trouble?
Show transcript
A grand theory that I am percolating is that actually the company that is in trouble here is Netflix because it's going to be caught in the middle. It was a red cultural force because Stranger Things was a cultural force. And Wednesday kind of was. And it has it has inched along through a few things that have been huge. And now it is just betting that you will go on and there will be so much reality stuff to watch that you'll find something and you won't cancel. It doesn't have the vast quantity of free content, nor does it have the event content that people will actually go out of their way and pay for. And so it's turning into, and this is true on the platform, it's turning into just chum. Right? Like it is it is reality TV. It is it is hours to fill. And I think everybody looks at Netflix as like this unstoppable behemoth. I look at Netflix less every month than every month before because there is just increasingly nothing on it. Am I crazy? Do you like am I am I just way over my skis on Netflix? >> I think Netflix is an aggressively well-run company. >> Sure. >> Um and the danger for Netflix, in my opinion, is that everyone has realized that their library of like good movies from the 2000s is valuable and they don't just dump it on Netflix anymore. >> Yes, that's right. >> an engine to make a bunch of those movies anymore. Netflix is also a slave to data. >> Yeah. >> And I think there's a reason every Netflix movie looks the same and is kind of bland. And every Netflix TV like there's a Netflix look. And I think it's fine. You can watch TikTok while you're watching Netflix. >> Yeah. >> They got to get over that. They got to make things worth watching or find a way to win the licensing battle with everybody else to buy things worth watching. And I just don't I That's that's their danger, but I don't think that they're confused. >> Maybe not. Yeah, that might be right. >> Just to say this as clearly as I can, I think Netflix is run by essentially same people and all of these other companies are a bit crazy. [laughter]
