TLDR:

Van de Poppe says Bitcoin needs to break $76,000 after sweeping recent lows to build bullish momentum.

Crypto Rover flags extreme net short positioning, though the chart cannot verify an all-time record.

Glassnode identified a $75,700 short-term holder cost basis and an overhead liquidation cluster near $87,000.

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $411.9M on November 6, bringing weekly outflows to approximately $1.28B.

Bitcoin hovered near $75,800 on Sunday, November 8, as analysts identified conditions that could trigger a sharp recovery after a quiet weekend. Michaël van de Poppe said Bitcoin must clear $76,000 to confirm upward momentum following a sweep of recent lows. Crypto Rover separately pointed to unusually bearish derivatives positioning as a possible catalyst for a short squeeze. However, neither signal confirms that a rebound has started.

Bitcoin’s $76K Breakout Could Fuel a Short Squeeze After Low Sweep

In a November 8 X post, Van de Poppe said Bitcoin’s sideways weekend trading was expected. His TradingView chart showed BTC stabilizing around $75,000 after briefly trading below nearby support, an action traders describe as a liquidity sweep.

Literally nothing has happened for #Bitcoin over the weekend.

That was quite to be expected, unfortunately.

Technically, Bitcoin has swept the lows, meaning we’re likely to break higher.

However, if it wants to break upwards, we’d need to break through $76,000 in order to get… pic.twitter.com/wH52rPWiVb

He argued that a move through $76,000 could accelerate gains as his chart showed relatively few intermediate resistance levels. The setup remains conditional, with Bitcoin still trading around the threshold rather than establishing a sustained breakout.

The broader chart shows resistance around $78,000 to $80,000, where previous rebounds encountered selling. On the downside, the September low area remains important if the recent stabilization fails.

Extreme Short Positioning Raises Bitcoin Squeeze Expectations

Meanwhile, Crypto Rover’s November 8 post described Bitcoin net shorts as reaching an all-time high while longs stood at an all-time low. His accompanying chart compared the current positioning reading with earlier periods when Bitcoin formed local bottoms.

THIS IS INSANE!

Bitcoin net shorts are at an all-time high, while longs are at an all-time low.

Every previous move to these levels has marked a major bottom…

Rover argued that similarly extreme readings previously preceded recoveries, suggesting forced short covering could propel prices upward. However, the image does not establish an independently verified, market-wide record or show that a squeeze is inevitable.

Basically, a short squeeze occurs when rising prices force leveraged bearish traders to buy back positions. Those purchases can intensify an advance, particularly when liquidation orders cluster above the market. A November 4 rally briefly carried Bitcoin above $81,000, but the advance faded as sellers returned, demonstrating rapid squeeze reversals.

Glassnode Maps $87K Short-Liquidation Cluster Amid ETF Outflows

Glassnode’s November 4 report identified Bitcoin’s short-term holder cost basis near $75,700 and a major short-liquidation concentration around $87,000. It said just 38% of short-term holder supply remained profitable, down from more than 97% in early October.

Meanwhile, Farside Investors recorded $411.9 million in U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF outflows on November 6. The funds lost approximately $1.28 billion during the week, indicating persistent fund redemptions despite the weekend’s stability.

That leaves two competing scenarios. A sustained move above $76,000 could support Van de Poppe’s recovery case and pressure short sellers. Conversely, losing $75,000 would expose lower support, with the 200-day moving average near $73,200 becoming another level to watch.
