The wallet maker Ledger is giving a clearer account of a draining incident that triggered an estimated $91 million in stolen funds.

The company says all confirmed cases from the October 9th incident involve devices sold through the Southeast Asia reseller CryptoBilis, and that its systems and direct sales channels remain unaffected.

Ledger also confirms one affected customer’s device contained an unauthorized hardware implant. It has not said the implant caused every loss.

Ledger says the number of affected devices is limited and that it is working with authorities while it reaches out to impacted users.

The $91 million estimate was released by Galaxy Research head of firmwide research Alex Thorn.

CryptoBilis has confirmed it stopped selling hardware wallets.

Ledger is telling CryptoBilis buyers not to initialize unused devices, and to move funds to a new seed on a device bought from Ledger if they already set one up.

Says Ledger,

“To date, all confirmed cases related to the disclosed draining incident of Oct 9th, 2026, involve devices sold through the Southeast Asia reseller CryptoBilis. Our systems and direct sales channels remain unaffected.

We encourage impacted users to reach out to Ledger Support through official channels and file complaints with their local law enforcement authorities…

Also, we strongly advise users not to purchase from unauthorized resellers, where the risk of buying suspicious, counterfeit or modified devices is important as nothing operates under ledger security guidelines.”
