Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel on AI in healthcare: Some areas ‘it will do a better job than physicians’

I think there are areas in which it uh will do a better job than physicians. There are some areas in healthcare where we're actually doctors don't do such a hotsy job as I like to say. Sometimes uh the diagnosis we miss about 12 million diagnosis a year. Uh but I would say that uh the lowest hanging fruit with the biggest impact on the health care system is managing chronic illness. This is an area the United States health care system doesn't do well managing your hypertension, your diabetes, your h high cholesterol. And we have uh some evidence uh and there's good reason to believe that autonomous AI can probably do it better. For one thing, these are all conditions that are pretty algorithmic on how you're supposed to manage them.
