TL;DR
Canada ranks as the G7’s leading peer-to-peer crypto economy , according to blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis.
Transfers from Canada to India, China and the Philippines reached $2.36 billion between July 2025 and June 2026 , marking a 141% year-over-year increase.
Stablecoins and Bitcoin are gaining traction among Canadians sending money abroad, offering an alternative to traditional remittance services while highlighting the importance of exchange rates and withdrawal fees.
Canada is emerging as a major hub for peer-to-peer (P2P) cryptocurrency adoption among G7 economies , driven by growing demand for more efficient international payments. According to Chainalysis , remittance-sized crypto transfers from Canada to India, China and the Philippines reached $2.36 billion in the year ending June 2026 , reflecting a 141% annual increase.
The figures point to a practical use case for digital assets beyond trading and investment. For Canadians supporting relatives overseas, Bitcoin and dollar-pegged stablecoins offer additional ways to move money across borders , potentially reducing costs and settlement times compared with conventional financial services.
Why Canada Leads The G7 In P2P Crypto
Canada’s demographic profile helps explain this growth. Roughly 23% of its population was foreign-born , giving the country one of the largest immigrant population shares among G7 members. Established financial ties with countries across Asia create substantial demand for cross-border transfers, particularly to India, the Philippines and China.
Traditional remittance providers remain important, but their fees can reduce the amount recipients ultimately receive. The World Bank’s figures cited in the report put the average cost of sending money from Canada at 6.7% . Blockchain-based transfers can offer an alternative settlement mechanism, although users must also account for currency conversion, platform charges and cash-out expenses.
For crypto users, stablecoins can be especially useful because their value is designed to track a reference currency , usually the US dollar. This allows senders to transfer dollar-denominated digital assets without taking on Bitcoin’s full price volatility during the transaction.
Stablecoins Gain Ground Across Asian Remittance Corridors
The three Asian destinations recorded approximately 3.56 million transfers totaling $2.36 billion , equivalent to an average of about $663 per transaction. Transfers to the Philippines alone reached $61.04 million across 73,564 transactions, with their value rising 28% and transaction volume increasing 34.7%.
Chainalysis examined Bitcoin and stablecoin transfers above $10,000 to capture remittance-related activity while excluding the smallest payments. Consequently, the dataset does not represent every crypto-powered family transfer, and its transaction thresholds should be considered when interpreting the findings.
Stablecoins are also gaining ground in Canadian trading markets. They accounted for 44% of Canadian dollar-denominated order book volume in June 2026 , up 30% from the previous year, according to the report.
