Apple Makes Some Cuts in Hardware Engineering to Speed Up Development
Show transcript
Turnus wants more people doing the engineering, and so they have laid off dozens of RPMs in the hardware engineering organization. And what I can tell you exclusively on this podcast is that I think that is the beginning of more layoffs for more efficiency to make Apple's engineering ranks, particularly on the hardware technologies in the hardware engineering side, both under scrutiny, much leaner. They want fewer people. They want fewer layers. They want, but they want things to be developed much more quickly. And I'm told that Turnus is looking very closely at this. And one of the reasons that he brought back Laurel Magro, who was his EPM, uh, the lead EPM at the hardware engineering organization until around 2022, when she retired for the first time, uh, was because he wants Laura to take a very close look at how the hardware engineering organizations can be run much more efficiently from a financial standpoint. They don't need to do it, and it's very hard to sell the market. It's very hard to sell employees. On doing a massive layoff that you don't need to do from a financial standpoint. And so that's really the issue at hand here. I do expect them to keep doing these sort of under the radar. Smaller layoffs across a number of engineering departments to get to a more engineering driven culture.
