SoundHound AI (NASDAQ: SOUN ) stock has plunged 53% in 2026, closing at $4.72 on Friday as investors reassess the artificial intelligence (AI) company’s growth prospects, profitability, and valuation.

With the shares trading near their 52-week low of $4.38, investors face a key question: does the sell-off present a buying opportunity, or could further losses follow?

SoundHound AI’s technical indicators suggest that its share-price recovery remains unconfirmed.

As of October 16, the 14-day relative strength index ( RSI ) stood at approximately 42.8, below the neutral 50 level. The moving-average convergence divergence ( MACD ) was bearish, while technical readings showed 10 sell signals against two buy signals.

Notably, nearby support levels stood at $4.60, $4.49, and $4.33. Resistance was identified around $4.88, $5.04 and $5.16.

A break below support could expose the stock to additional losses. Conversely, sustained trading above resistance would provide stronger evidence of improving momentum. These levels are technical reference points, not guaranteed price floors or ceilings.

SoundHound AI business

Despite the decline, SoundHound continues to expand its voice AI business. Its investment case now hinges on whether revenue growth can translate into sustainable profitability and a recovery in its share price.

SoundHound AI reported record second-quarter 2026 revenue of $61.9 million on August 5, up 45% year over year. GAAP gross margin improved to 45.1% from 39%, while its GAAP net loss narrowed to $42.8 million from $74.7 million.

The company raised its full-year revenue guidance to between $230 million and $260 million, implying a midpoint of $245 million. Its business spans automotive voice assistants, restaurant ordering, healthcare, and enterprise AI agents.

SoundHound ended the second quarter with $203 million in cash and cash equivalents and no debt. However, operating cash outflow reached nearly $60 million during the first half of 2026, highlighting the challenge of turning expanding sales into sustainable cash generation.

SoundHound’s growth strategy centers on integrating conversational AI into business operations and consumer products.

On September 30, the company announced the launch of its real-time generative AI voice assistant in the Kia Sorento in India. It has also expanded relationships across healthcare, financial services, automotive, and restaurant ordering.

These deployments could support future sales as customers adopt more AI-powered services. However, their financial impact will depend on implementation, customer adoption, and the company’s ability to generate profitable recurring revenue.

Is SOUN stock a buy, sell or hold?

SoundHound AI offers exposure to a growing AI market, backed by double-digit revenue growth, expanding commercial deployments and a substantial cash balance. These factors support the bullish case.

The counterargument is that the company remains unprofitable, consumes operating cash, and has yet to demonstrate that its growth can deliver sustainable earnings. Its bearish technical indicators also suggest that the stock has not established a clear recovery trend.

For prospective investors, waiting for improved price momentum and further evidence of operating progress may help manage downside risk.

Existing shareholders can assess upcoming financial results against revenue guidance, margins and cash flow to determine whether the investment thesis remains intact.

Overall, SoundHound AI is a speculative recovery play, not a confirmed buy signal. Its long-term potential depends on converting commercial growth into sustainable profitability, while the near-term technical outlook remains weak.
