NFL tells Supreme Court prediction markets are gambling and should be regulated by the states

We can exclusively report this morning that the NFL has filed a brief with the Supreme Court urging justices to issue a speedy decision in the battle between prediction markets and states over who can regulate sports betting on platforms like Poly Market and Koshi, with whom CNBC has a commercial relationship. The NFL is arguing the CFTC maybe doesn't have the staff or the resources to protect the integrity of its sport against manipulation and insider trading. Further, the league says repeatedly it has petitioned the CFTC and the prediction platforms themselves to eliminate event contracts that are vulnerable to insider trading to no avail. And the league wants a 21 and over age limit where prediction betting is available right now to 18 to 20 year olds. Now, according to the draft brief to the Supreme Court obtained by CNBC, the League argues that regulating gambling is among states sovereign police powers and it asks what constitutional power allows Congress to override states traditional police powers to regulate intrastate gambling. Though some of the NBA's biggest stars, of course, guys have signed massive contracts with the platforms like LeBron James $15 million reported deal with Poly Market where he's out earning what he makes with the NBA.
