Aave V4 now has 144 wallets borrowing USDC against tokenized stock collateral. That is up from 8 wallets when the market launched on September 25, according to activity highlighted by @tokenterminal. The jump suggests more users are testing whether tokenized equities can work as loan collateral in decentralized finance.

Borrowing Activity Climbs

The platform reports $9.0 million in Coinbase-issued tokenized stocks posted as collateral. The list includes Apple, Nvidia, and Tesla. Against that collateral, users have borrowed $3.8 million in USDC. The numbers are still small in the context of broader crypto lending, but the direction is clear. More wallets are opening positions, and the mix of assets is unusual for a DeFi lending market.

The report also puts Aave trading volume at zero. That may reflect a quiet market, a reporting gap, or a snapshot taken at an odd time. I would not read too much into one zero print. The borrowing data is the more useful signal here, though it is also early and could change quickly.

Tokenized Stocks as Collateral

Using tokenized stocks for loans raises practical questions. Price feeds matter. Market hours matter. Corporate actions like splits and dividends matter. If the collateral is tied to equities, lenders need clear rules for when the underlying market is closed or when a stock moves sharply. Aave V4’s activity suggests demand exists, but demand alone does not answer those design questions.

The setup could attract users who hold tokenized shares and want cash without selling. It could also bring in traders who want to borrow against assets that are not purely crypto. That is perhaps the more interesting part. The experiment tests whether DeFi lending can handle collateral that behaves differently from bitcoin or ether.

What to Watch

The next signals are user engagement, borrowing rates, and any regulatory updates around tokenized assets. A rise from 8 to 144 wallets is easy to notice, but it is not yet a long trend. Watch whether the number keeps growing after the first wave of users. Also watch whether more tokenized stocks get added and whether lenders remain comfortable with the risk.

For now, Aave V4 has a small but active market for USDC loans backed by tokenized stocks. It is worth watching, not worth overstating.
