TL;DR

Mastercard has introduced Stablecoin Security , a risk intelligence service that screens payments for fraud, scams, sanctions exposure, and other financial crime indicators before funds move onchain.

Borderless.xyz and Keyrails are the first partners, helping integrate the service into cross-border and trade payment operations.

The service is launching in North America first, with worldwide commercial availability expected in 2027 , reinforcing Mastercard’s broader expansion into stablecoin infrastructure.

Mastercard has introduced a new security service designed to help financial institutions process stablecoin payments with greater confidence. Called Stablecoin Security , the solution combines payment data and blockchain intelligence to identify potential risks before transactions move onchain, supporting the adoption of digital assets in international payments.

The launch reflects growing demand for tools that allow banks and businesses to use stablecoins while maintaining established fraud prevention and compliance standards. Mastercard unveiled the service at Money20/20 USA, naming Borderless.xyz and Keyrails as its initial partners .

How Mastercard Stablecoin Security Assesses Payment Risks

Stablecoin Security evaluates transaction context, the origin of funds, potential exposure to restricted parties, and indicators associated with scams and financial crime. The service generates a risk score before a payment is completed , giving financial institutions an opportunity to review suspicious activity before transferring funds.

Delivered through an application programming interface (API), the solution can connect with existing fraud detection, compliance, and case management systems. This approach allows banks to incorporate blockchain analytics into their current operations instead of building an entirely separate infrastructure for digital asset payments.

The need for broader transaction visibility is supported by research cited by Mastercard. A study examining 593 million stablecoin transfer events across 141 million Ethereum transactions in 2025 found that nearly 60% occurred within complex, multi-step transactions rather than straightforward transfers between two parties.

These payment structures can complicate risk assessments, particularly when funds move across multiple wallets, service providers, countries, and currencies. By combining traditional payment intelligence with onchain information, Mastercard aims to help institutions evaluate transactions across more stages of the payment process .

Borderless.xyz And Keyrails Support Stablecoin Adoption

Mastercard is working with Borderless.xyz and Keyrails to bring the service into practical payment environments. Borderless.xyz connects financial institutions with licensed stablecoin providers across more than 113 countries and 72 currencies , while Keyrails focuses on high-value cross-border trade payments, including transactions in emerging markets.

Both companies have participated in Mastercard’s Start Path Blockchain and Digital Assets program. Their involvement gives the new service access to payment networks and business use cases where reliable settlement and transaction visibility are particularly important.
