TL;DR:

CryptoQuant data confirms a cumulative selling pressure exceeding $1.4 billion in memecoins on Binance.

Memecoins’ market capitalization share relative to the total altcoin market fell below the 3% threshold.

Sector assets such as BONK and FLOKI recorded weekly drops exceeding 15%, while MemeCore retreated by more than 19%.

Institutional and retail investors executed a memecoin sell-off exceeding $1.4 billion on the Binance platform this October 19, 2026, coinciding with Bitcoin’s cumulative pullback from its peak levels.

This capital movement stems from a widespread liquidity contraction across the digital ecosystem’s speculative segments.

According to metrics from analytics firm CryptoQuant , cumulative sell volume on the global exchange reflects a sustained outflow of funds since Bitcoin reached its last all-time high. The pioneer cryptocurrency fell 54% from the peak recorded late last year, currently hovering around 35% below that mark.

This deceleration of the leading crypto hit internet narrative-based tokens the hardest. Unlike layer-1 networks or protocols with verifiable revenue streams, these projects rely on social media virality to support their prices.

The liquidity drain reduced these tokens’ share to less than 3% of the total altcoin sector market capitalization. This percentage represents their lowest level recorded in the current cycle.

CryptoQuant reveals in its technical report that the current scenario highlights disproportionate pressure on the most volatile segment within the crypto market . The platform’s analysts pointed out that this behavior aligns with previous corrective phases, where assets lacking fundamental backing tend to concentrate the largest capital losses.

The balance of the last seven days shows declines across the category’s major benchmarks. Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) retreated around 9% in their respective trading pairs. Meanwhile, dogwifhat (WIF) accumulated a drop of more than 10% over the same weekly period.

Other issuances posted even steeper losses. Official Trump (TRUMP) dropped over 12%, while BONK and FLOKI fell more than 15% on the week. In the case of MemeCore (M) , the contraction exceeded 19% at the close of recent trading sessions.

A representative case of this downturn was the LAPTOP token, launched on the Base layer-2 network on September 9. The asset lost 98% of its total valuation after a brief initial rally.

Criticism of Issuance Infrastructure and Trading Dynamics

The deterioration in the balance sheets of these assets sparked criticism regarding automated token creation platforms.

Market operators and sector analysts noted that platforms like Pump.fun, hosted on the Solana network, encouraged trading dynamics centered on split-second speculation. Community documentation and on-chain records show that average holding times have collapsed to historical lows.

This rapid turnover prevents reserve consolidation and exacerbates the lack of technical support during high-volume sell orders.

Additionally, independent analysts reported coordinated dumping practices by key promoters and insiders. These actors frequently offload their positions minutes after smart contract deployments, shifting the downside risk onto retail participants.

The recurring use of “bundled launches” was also flagged as a major factor eroding participant confidence, as it enables insider wallets to corner substantial portions of the circulating supply before trading opens to the wider public.

In the short term, this segment’s trajectory will depend on Bitcoin stabilizing around its support zones and the release of weekly centralized exchange volume data scheduled for the close of the current operating cycle.
