TL;DR:

The THORChain v3.21 update is scheduled to activate at block height 28,366,100, estimated for October 23, 2026.

The release patches an exploit in Rujira Network’s FIN contract and resolves technical flaws that halted Solana and Zcash trading.

The protocol introduces the Streaming Yield feature for bond providers, while native Monero support is postponed to version v3.21.1.

This Monday, the rollout of THORChain v3.21 was announced. It is a software update designed to restore stalled operational features across its cross-chain liquidity protocol. According to the THORChain development team, technical activation was scheduled for block 28,366,100, anticipated for October 23, 2026, between 13:40 and 16:15 UTC.

THORChain Network Update

3.21 is finally cut! It ships a ton of network fixes and should bring the network back to full functionality, plus a long-requested feature.

The patch package aims to restore direct cross-chain swaps following several weeks of selective disruptions. Official documentation from the network on GitLab reveals that the modifications will allow the platform to recover nominal operations after facing issues across multiple external layer integrations.

Fixing the Rujira Exploit and Reactivating Chains

Among the priority modifications, version v3.21 includes patches targeted at the Application Layer (App Layer), specifically to remediate an exploit identified in Rujira Network’s FIN contract. This vulnerability forced the temporary suspension of the order-book style trading environment operating on THORChain funds.

Protocol data indicates that the patch isolates the contract vulnerability and authorizes the immediate reactivation of the App Layer . According to market analysts, this incident highlighted ongoing security pressures in modular DeFi architectures that depend on shared liquidity pools.

The deployment also resolves compatibility issues across connected external networks. Swap operations with Solana were paused after the emergence of a new transaction type on that blockchain caused processing failures across validator nodes.

The update provides the necessary code to parse these Solana operations without the risk of desynchronization. According to the technical team’s report, Zcash swaps will also return to active status after resolving an output-matching issue that triggered a slashing event in one of the network’s vaults—an incident in which no capital losses occurred.

The release further corrects a calculation error in affiliate fees within the SwapKit aggregator. According to statements from infrastructure maintainers, this adjustment will allow multiple partner platforms to reconnect their direct interfaces to THORChain pools. Similarly, the Limit Swaps feature, which remained disabled due to causing excessive state bloat on the network, will be phased back in gradually.

Liquidity Adjustments and Asset Roadmap

THORChain has navigated a rigorous operating environment throughout 2026. In May of this year, the network suffered a $10.7 million drain in one of its Asgard vaults, attributed to a newly onboarded node operator, which halted swaps for 39 consecutive days.

Subsequently, in August, Maya Protocol —a direct fork of THORChain’s architecture—suffered a security breach resulting in a $1.7 million loss. According to ecosystem governance records, these incidents prompted the sequential release of hardening versions v3.19.0 in June and v3.20 in August.

Despite community demand, privacy integration with Monero will not be included in this rollout. The network clarified that while multiple hardening adjustments were made for XMR , full compatibility is deferred to the future v3.21.1 release, which does not yet have a set date on the technical roadmap.

The update introduces the Streaming Yield tool for bond liquidity providers. This mechanism allows depositors to collect yield periodically directly into their wallets without waiting for their node operator to complete the standard churn-out cycle.

This feature will remain inactive at the time of the hard fork until the Mimir governance module formally approves its activation. Under the design guidelines outlined by developers, Memoless Swaps will return with a dynamic fee model that scales costs up as identifiers saturate, mitigating prior congestion bottlenecks.

The next step for the network will focus on consensus monitoring on Friday, October 23, when validator operators execute the software cutover at the designated block height.
