Category Labs has developed a version of the Monad execution client capable of generating zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs for Ethereum blocks. The project aims to integrate this technology into the Ethereum Foundation’s Guest Diversity program under the Ethproofs initiative.

The system makes it possible to verify that a block’s transactions were executed correctly without repeating all the computations. It uses ZisK , a virtual machine designed to generate cryptographic proofs.

In its tests, Category Labs reduced median proof generation time by 17% compared with ziskethone, a reference implementation developed by the ZisK team. The process took 13 seconds per block across a sample of 30 blocks, using an Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU.

The company also used an artificial intelligence agent to automate some of its code optimizations. This process produced more than 300 improvements , reducing estimated computational costs by 57% compared with the initial implementation.

In a benchmark involving 200 Ethereum blocks, the Monad-based client recorded computational costs 26% lower than ziskethone .

Category Labs is still working to complete the client for integration into Ethproofs. The company noted that the results are preliminary and that it will continue optimizing the implementation.
