Maple Finance disclosures show about 225 million XRP, worth roughly $281 million at reported values, is backing $151.8 million in stablecoin loans. Two repayment dates fall in December, and a third is set for January 2027. The positions appear on Maple’s syrupUSDC and syrupUSDT dashboards, which track institutional borrowing against crypto collateral.

How the loans are split

About 142.77 million XRP supports syrupUSDC, while 82.31 million XRP backs syrupUSDT. Together they secure roughly $96.61 million in USDC loans and $55.19 million in USDT borrowing. The loans were about 179% to 189% collateralized at the reported valuations, so borrowers pledged more XRP value than the amount borrowed.

The financing originates from Ethereum-based liquidity pools, but the XRP collateral stays in native custody on the XRP Ledger. That setup differs from the proposed XRPL Lending Protocol, which is designed around onchain credit infrastructure and offchain underwriting rather than automated collateral liquidations.

What maturity means for XRP

The December deadlines do not automatically mean millions of XRP will be sold. Borrowers can repay and release collateral, refinance, or negotiate new terms that keep the XRP pledged. That distinction matters because collateral can stay committed for months instead of moving briefly between wallets during settlement.

Refinancing is not guaranteed. If XRP prices fall enough to breach contractual collateral requirements, borrowers may need to add assets or reduce debt. Under Maple’s procedures, an unresolved margin call can eventually lead to liquidation, which could turn pledged XRP into market sales. There is no confirmed indication that these three positions are facing liquidation right now.

Why the numbers matter

DefiLlama attributed about $281 million of XRP Ledger DeFi value to Maple, compared with roughly $318 million across the network. That means the lending arrangement represented about 88% of the reported total at the time, although the actual financing originated on Ethereum.

Other protocols are testing similar use cases. Flare has introduced XRP-backed borrowing using RLUSD, and more than 145 million FXRP had been minted through its network by late September. Ripple and Clearpool are also involved in institutional credit projects. I think the key point is simpler: the Maple loans show demand for XRP beyond trading and payments, while also showing how concentrated that demand can look in DeFi data. The market is not huge yet, perhaps, but the repayment schedule is worth watching.
