More than 168 million Americans , representing 64% of adults, say their banks , credit unions, or financial advisors have never discussed cryptocurrencies with them . The figure comes from the 2026 Crypto at the Bank report, published by the National Cryptocurrency Association (NCA) based on a Harris Poll survey.
The information gap is particularly pronounced among adults aged 65 and older: 92% have never received guidance on cryptocurrencies , compared with 42% of adults aged 18 to 34. Additionally, 43% of respondents do not know whether their bank offers crypto-related services.
The survey also identified substantial potential demand. Approximately 112 million Americans (42%) would be more likely to open an account or use more services at a financial institution that offers cryptocurrencies. Another 59% , equivalent to 156 million people , would feel comfortable having their institution custody their digital assets.
Banks retain the trust of a large share of consumers: 64% believe they can provide reliable cryptocurrency guidance, compared with 67% who trust financial advisors and 39% who trust social media.
The most requested services are cryptocurrency funds and ETFs , along with buying, selling, and holding digital assets, each cited by 22% of respondents. Finally, 60% expect most U.S. banks to offer crypto services within the next decade , a figure that rises to 74% among adults under 35.
