Nvidia’s (NASDAQ: NVDA ) dominance in artificial intelligence has delivered massive returns for early investors.

With demand for AI computing continuing to drive growth, the stock could offer further opportunities for investors seeking to build million-dollar portfolios over the next year.

However, reaching $1 million by October 2027 will depend on the initial investment and NVDA’s share-price performance. Reinvested dividends could add to returns, although Nvidia’s low yield makes capital appreciation the primary driver.

At Nvidia’s last closing price of $229, an investor would need approximately 4,367 shares to build a $1 million portfolio. Buying that position would cost about $1 million, meaning investors starting with less capital would need substantial gains or regular contributions to reach the target.

A rally would reduce the number of shares required. In this case,  at $300, approximately 3,334 shares would be worth $1 million.

At $350, investors would need 2,858 shares, while at $400, they would need 2,500. If NVDA reaches $500, 2,000 shares would be worth $1 million.

It’s worth noting that a  $1 million portfolio is different from $1 million in profit. Growing a $900,000 investment to $1 million, for example, generates a $100,000 gain before fees and taxes.

Nvidia’s AI business could support further gains, but reaching the target with fewer shares is not guaranteed.

Nvidia stock fundamentals

In this line, Nvidia’s second-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue rose 106% year over year to $96.2 billion, while data-center revenue climbed 117% to $89 billion. The company projected $108 billion in third-quarter revenue.

However, strong growth does not guarantee similar stock returns. Investors must consider Nvidia’s valuation, competition, export restrictions, and whether AI infrastructure spending will remain strong.

For investors targeting $1 million by October 2027, Nvidia’s growth prospects offer a potential catalyst, but further appreciation is not assured.

At the same time, dividend reinvestment can gradually increase NVDA holdings by using distributions to buy additional shares, which can generate further dividends over time.

At an annual dividend rate of $1 per share, an investor holding 1,000 shares would receive $1,000 before taxes, assuming the rate remains unchanged.

Reinvesting that amount at $229 per share would buy roughly four additional shares, excluding transaction costs.

Although the benefit grows with the number of shares held and the time dividends remain invested, Nvidia’s low yield means reinvestment would play a minor role in reaching $1 million within a year compared with the initial investment, additional contributions, and share-price gains. Future dividends are also not guaranteed.
