XRP traders are moving assets to centralized crypto exchanges amid macro hiccups, even as the coin remains sideways. However, speculation of an altcoin swing remains, with bulls poised for a final push to end the year.
XRP Exchange Reserves Hit 11.81 Billion
On October 17, the total XRP on centralized exchanges crossed 11.81 billion as Binance unwinds leverage. Recent inflows surprised most users, who expected a firm last quarter after a year marked by liquidations.
The surge in centralized exchange deposits sparked expected conversations about consistent flash sales. When large numbers of traders move assets into centralized exchanges, liquidation risk spikes, as historical trends show.
This contrasts with withdrawals to self-custody wallets, which suggest long-term holdings. A major issue for traders is the added pressure on the market after it has slipped below support several times in the last 12 months.
CryptoQuant researchers noted that Binance XRP open interest is $453 million, while long liquidation stands at $25.7 million, marking the largest two-day total in two weeks. Major swings were expected as macroeconomic factors remain uncertain.
“ Against its own baseline, Binance’s reserve (2.67B) sits only at the 30th percentile of its year, so the build-up appears concentrated on other venues. Binance netflow still averaged +9.3M XRP/day over the past week (Z +1.13), driven by net inflows of +22M…Meanwhile, whale volume fell 44% week over week, and tokens transferred fell 37%. The on-chain activity behind these balances may be thinning.”
However, some analysts view recent inflows to exchanges like Binance as collateral to hedge in risky periods rather than an outright sale. Crypto bears oppose this view, citing previous cycles and current risks. Like the broader market, the next XRP rally hinges on institutional demand, and a downturn will trigger retail sell-offs.
At the time of writing, the asset trades at $1.33 and is up 2.18% in the last 24 hours, though it is down 2.31% over the week. XRP’s market cap is currently $82.2 billion and, according to bulls, could surge if large whales, particularly corporate treasury holders, shift.
